During sea passage, an alarm sounded concerning high scavenging air temperature in the No.6 cylinder of the main engine. The main engine was stopped for inspection after avoiding stormy weather.

While the vessel was under way, main engine's crankcase pressure was increased and the oil­ mist detector indicated 6-7 (when it normally reads 0-3). Investigation revealed that blow-by had occurred on the No.3 cylinder sub-piston.
